Since 2022, MMAP has awarded over $13.9 million to 76 Massachusetts-based manufacturers.

Funding enables companies to meet industry demands and aids in manufacturing new technologies that align with key state industries.

This will enable Aslym to precisely test their battery systems to meet their high standards of quality control and customer specification.

Toner Plastics is a plastics technology solutions provider, specializing in plastic extrusion, design engineering, complex mold manufacturing, and injection molding. They will purchase automated labeling equipment used to label both sides of their finished products. This will enable Toner Plastics to automate a manual process, improving safety and efficiency.

Western Bronze is a manufacturer of engineered non-ferrous castings, mainly supporting the defense industry. They will be purchasing multiple pieces of equipment, including a swing frame cut-off machine, an airless shot blasting system, and a rubber belt blast mill. This will enable Western Bronze to replace outdated equipment, which impacts their ability to maintain timing, precision, and safety standards.

This grant will enable Allium to purchase a series of 5 equipment systems, including a vertical mill, material conveyer, and a laser curtain enclosure. This will allow them to build out their new steel cladding micro-factory in Massachusetts. As a result of this project, Allium expects to upskill 7 to 10 employees.

Project: Alogus Innovation & Design is a product development firm that manufactures custom 3D-printed surgical guides for veterinary orthopedics.  This grant will enable Alogus to purchase five new 3D printers with wash and cure stations. This will increase volume and output, and will allow Alogus to print larger models in a single run without having to sacrifice quality. As a result of this project, they expect to upskill 1 to 3 employees. 
Atlas Devices$100,000ChelmsfordTufts University (Nolop Makerspace) 
Project: Atlas Devices manufactures rescue equipment (including lightweight ladders, powered ascenders, magnetic climbing systems, and spaceflight training hardware), primarily serving the defense, utility, and aviation industries. This grant will enable the purchase of a CNC lathe with live tooling and an automatic bar feeder. This will allow Atlas to dramatically improve the responsiveness and manufacturing output of their internal machine shop. As a result of this project, Atlas expects to upskill 4 to 6 employees.

Project: Bay State Machine is a manufacturer of components for a wide array of companies within the defense, aerospace, medical, and semiconductor industries.  This grant will enable them to purchase a 5-axis CNC machining center with an auto loader. This will allow Bay State to run lights-out to support their increasing demand for complex parts. As a result of this project, Bay State expects to upskill 1 to 3 employees.

Project: Berkshire Sterile Manufacturing is a contract manufacturer that produces sterile injectable drugs for biotechnology, pharmaceutical and medical device companies. This grant will enable them to purchase a state of the art, high capacity, pharmaceutical-grade vial washer. This will allow Berkshire Sterile to ensure compliance with stringent regulations, increase automation capabilities, and save energy while reducing wastewater production. As a result of this project, Berkshire Sterile expects to upskill 11+ employees.

Project: Cartamundi is a card and board game manufacturer that produces games for Hasbro and other publishers.  This grant will enable Cartamundi to purchase a high speed, side-weld pouch machine for the manufacturing of plastic card sleeves used to protect trading, game, and collectible cards. This will bring a new product and technology to the Cartamundi East Longmeadow facility. There are no known manufacturers of protective sleeves within the United States with the current sleeves on the market being produced in China, Vietnam, and Japan. As a result of this project, they expect to upskill 4 to 6 employees.
Elegant Stitches, Inc.$198,930PittsfieldBerkshire Innovation Center
Project: Elegant Stitches is a minority-owned custom embroidery and screen-printing company, whose clients include the U.S. Army and the FBI.  This grant will enable Elegant Stitches to purchase two new embroidery machines, a laser cutter and engraver, and a robotic sewing machine. This will allow them to produce at higher volumes and efficiency, and will position the company to be a formidable manufacturer in the defense industry. As a result of this project, Elegant Stitches expects to upskill 4 to 6 employees.

Project: Evans Machine Co. is a manufacturer of precision-machined parts, specialized in offering high-volume solutions and prototype development for an array of industries. This grant will enable Evans to purchase a horizontal machining center and a 5-axis milling machine. This new technology will increase efficiency and create opportunities for growth for their employees and customer base. As a result of this project, Evans expects to upskill 7 to 10 employees.

Project: Finwave Semiconductor is commercializing advanced Gallium Nitride (GaN) semiconductor technology to enable energy efficient 5G communications.  This grant will enable Finwave to purchase a semi-automatic probe station and a semiconductor pulse IV measurement system. As a result of this project, they expect to upskill 4 to 6 employees.

Project: Gemline is an award-winning, design centric supplier providing high quality branded products to many different industries. This grant will enable them to purchase two fully automated pen printing machines, with automated feeders and alignment features. This will allow Gemline to bring pen printing capabilities in-house, a process that is currently sub-contracted to a facility in Mexico. As a result of this project, Gemline expects to upskill 7 to 10 employees.
H&S Tool and Engineering Inc.$200,000Fall RiverMassMEP
Project: H&S Tool and Engineering provides precision CNC machining and manufacturing to companies across the globe, reaching the energy, defense, medical and aerospace industries.  This grant will enable H&S to purchase two CNC milling machines and two CNC turning machines, which will replace equipment that is over 20 years old. Modernizing their equipment will lead to improved output quality and quantity. As a result of this project, H&S expects to upskill 11+ employees.
Innofiber$110,000SterlingMassMEP
Project: Innofiber specializes in the development and production of innovative fiber optic cable assemblies for medical and industrial applications that meet the highest industry standards.  This grant will enable them to purchase pick and place robotic equipment and high-resolution cameras/lighting. This will allow Innofiber to eliminate tedious manual tasks, as well as detect defects of their product post-polishing. As a result of this project, Innofiber expects to upskill 4 to 6 employees.
Iradion Laser, Inc.$84,255UxbridgeMassMEP
Project: Iradion Laser, Inc. manufactures RF-Driven CO2 (carbon dioxide) lasers for cutting, engraving, and processing organic materials.  This grant will enable them to purchase updated gas processing equipment. This will allow Iradion Laser to upgrade their manufacturing capability; improving quality, efficiency, and moving closer to the fundamentals of Industry 4.0 through the integration of automation. As a result of this project, they expect to upskill 1 to 3 employees.
Lenco Industries, Inc.$200,000PittsfieldBerkshire Innovation Center 
Project: Lenco Armored Vehicles is the nation’s leading designer and manufacturer of commercial armored response and rescue vehicles used by the US military, US law enforcement, and government agencies worldwide.  This grant will enable Lenco to purchase a robotic welding system. This will allow them to automate a formerly manual process.  Lenco will produce small batches of custom parts and high-volume components at a quality that will meet strict standards. As a result of this project, Lenco expects to upskill 7 to 10 employees.

Project: OutCast Lures is a minority-owned manufacturer and distributor of recreational fishing equipment, namely wooden fishing lures.  This grant will enable OutCast to purchase a CNC lathe, a CNC vertical milling station, and other pieces of equipment. This will allow them to eliminate multiple station, hand-operated processes, and will allow shop technicians to execute fewer clusters of operation. As a result of this project, OutCast expects to upskill 1 to 3 employees.

Project: RH Adhesives manufactures approximately 60,000 gallons per year of specialty adhesives that serve industrial niche applications.  This grant will enable them to purchase automatic labeling machines, semi-automated packaging equipment, and additional mixing/holding tanks. This will allow RH to vastly improve their production line with the integration of automated processes. As a result of this project, RH expects to upskill 4 to 6 employees. 
Salem Metal, Inc.$200,000MiddletonMassMEP
Project: Salem Metal is a family-run, full-service sheet metal fabrication business serving a variety of industries including medical, electronics, test & instrumentation, security, and robotics. This grant will enable them to purchase a 10-shelf tower automation system. This will allow Salem Metal to automatically rack raw sheet metal, dispense material into their punch-laser combination unit, amongst other processes that can run lights-out. As a result of this project, Salem Metal expects to upskill 1 to 3 employees. 
South Shore Millwork, Inc.$200,000NortonMassHire Bristol Workforce Board
Project: South Shore Millwork manufactures and installs high-end, luxury architectural millwork primarily for residential customers.  This grant will enable them to purchase a customized texturing machine with 9 assorted sanding heads. This will allow South Shore Millwork to meet consumer demand, which has shifted away from a stained/finished wood product to sculpted antique finishes. As a result of this project, they expect to upskill 11+ employees.
Steele Canvas Basket Corp.$139,851WilmingtonMassMEP
Project: Steele Canvas Basket is a family owned, 103-year-old Massachusetts manufacturer of canvas baskets, vinyl baskets, and tote bags. Key customers include the US Postal Service, Goodwill, and Crate & Barrel. This grant will enable them to purchase an automated clinching press with a robotic load and unload unit. This environmentally friendly technology will be used to increase safety, quality, and output for frame production. As a result of this project, Steele Canvas expects to upskill 1 to 3 employees. 
Stergis Windows and Doors$200,000AttleboroMassMEP
Project: Stergis is a manufacturer of vinyl and aluminum windows and doors for residential and commercial uses.  This grant will enable them to purchase multiple pieces of equipment including an automated washing system, an automated miter saw, and a vertical 4-point welding system. This will allow Stergis to automate formerly manual tasks and shrink their lead time estimates, which will enhance their ability to land contracts. As a result of this project, Stergis expects to upskill 4 to 6 employees. 
Wellness Croft, Inc.$100,000PlymouthMassMEP
Project: Wellness Croft is a food manufacturer specializing in freeze-dried nutritional foods.  This grant will enable them to purchase additional freeze driers and other pieces of equipment for their production line. This will allow Wellness Croft to add to their base of next-generation equipment to increase output and efficiency. As a result of this project, Wellness Croft expects to upskill 4 to 6 employees.

The paint booth will also increase production and ensure better workplace safety. ARA estimates they will be able to upskill 7-10 employees.
Busek Co. Inc.$200,000NatickMassMEP
Project: Busek specializes in creating propulsion technology, sensors, and systems for use in aerospace applications. The company’s solar-electric rockets play an essential role in maneuvering satellites and human-rated spacecraft, and are used to adjust orbits, change inclinations, perform docking, and evasive movements. This MMAP grant will provide Busek with the means to acquire additional CNC equipment, a precision coordinate measuring machine (CMM) to inspect critical part dimensions for quality purposes, and a metal 3D printer to enable rapid prototyping and tooling processes. Busek expects to upskill 1-3 employees through this project.
CPS Technologies$200,000.00NortonMassHire
Project: CPS Technologies offers advanced material solutions that enable microelectronics for various industries, including transportation, automotive, energy, computing, telecommunications, aerospace, and defense. With this grant, CPS will be able to purchase their first five-axis CNC machine, allowing them to halt the outsourcing of specific tasks. CPS will also increase the technical offerings of their hermetic packaging line, and engage in the fabrication of complex, machined microelectronics housings. CPS expects to upskill 4-6 employees.
Elateq, Inc.$92,000AmherstMassMEP
Project: Elateq, Inc. is a woman-, minority-, and veteran-owned company that offers advanced electrochemical technologies for wastewater treatment, providing chemical-free, sustainable compliance solutions for water discharge. The MMAP grant will allow Elateq to acquire custom electrode modification tanks, an electrode preparation controller, and a 4300 handheld Fourier Transform Infra-Red (FTIR) analyzer. Elateq will be able to advance the manufacturing efficiencies and quality of their proprietary electrode material, and manufacture mixing components at-scale for their treatment units. Elateq expects to upskill 1-3 employees.
Fusion Optix, Inc.$181,717.59WoburnMassMEP
Project: Fusion Optix specializes in developing and manufacturing LED light fixtures, precision optical components, and LED light engines. With this grant, Fusion Optix will be able to buy a new pick-and-place chip mounter to automate the assembly of electronics with enhanced speed, accuracy, and precision. This investment will allow Fusion Optix to phase out outdated equipment, liberating additional production space for other activities. As a result of this project, Fusion Optix anticipates they will be able to upskill 1-3 employees.
Guardian Agriculture$200,000WoburnMassMEP
Project: Guardian Agriculture manufactures autonomous electric vertical-takeoff and landing drone (eVTOL) systems for environmentally-sustainable agriculture on a commercial scale. Their objective is to equip every grower with safe, effective, and precise aerial application tools, helping empower farmers to optimize their use of chemicals and to grow more efficiently. The grant will give Guardian the resources to purchase a five-axis CNC, reducing cycle time in prototyping and enabling the local production of essential components, while diminishing its reliance on Chinese suppliers. Guardian predicts they will be able to upskill 4-6 employees.
Harmonic Drive LLC$200,000BeverlyMassMEP
Project: Harmonic Drive is in the business of engineering and manufacturing precision servo actuators, gearheads, and gear component sets for various sectors, including surgical equipment, defense, semiconductor manufacturing, robotics, industrial automation, and more. The MMAP investment will allow Harmonic Drive to source CNC gear skiving equipment, increasing gear accuracy and reducing processing time by as much as 75 percent. Harmonic Drive expects to upskill 7-10 employees.
Kinefac Corporation$200,000WorcesterMassMEP
Project: Kinefac Corporation, a primarily woman-owned business, is a global leader in metal forming technology. The company specializes in crafting specialty-precision metal forming machinery with capabilities in cold form rolling, extrusion, radial forming, center-drive turning, deflection coiling, and other metal forming processes. The MMAP grant will enable Kinefac to buy a new large format thread grinder to replace old machinery. This purchase will enhance operating reliability, reduce machine downtime, and improve precision of the grinding process. Kinefac expects to upskill 1-3 employees.

Project: Matouk Textiles is a manufacturer of handcrafted luxury linens that has operated for nearly 100 years. This will provide greater control over the color standard, color fastness, and color consistency in their process. It will also allow them to dye the exact amount of thread required to complete a job, minimizing material waste. As a result of this project, Matouk expects to upskill 7-10 employees.

This grant will empower Patriot to purchase seaming equipment, including a Schiavo Star wet seamer and a Sulak BBT semi-automatic wet seamer, devices that will enable Patriot to improve their production capacity and the quality of their products. Patriot expects to upskill 11+ employees as a result of this project.
Precision Fabricators, LLC (PFL)$200,000StoughtonMassMEP
Project: Precision Fabricators provides machining, welding, polishing, and pressure vessel delivery services. A significant portion of the company’s product line serves the semiconductor industry by creating critical, ultrapure hazardous materials that are needed during chip fabrication. PFL will utilize the grant funds to purchase six new pieces of equipment, including an automated robotic welding system, a laser-cutting system, and an advanced five-axis mill. These pieces of equipment will enable PFL to address current and emerging manufacturing requirements of the latest generation deposition systems. As a result of this project, PFL expects to upskill 4-6 employees.

Project: QCI designs and manufactures high-precision mechanical components in the medical, aerospace, robotics, and power generation sectors. The MMAP investment will provide QCI with the resources to purchase a multi-tasking CNC turning center (Mazak Multiplex W200Y) and a GL-100 Robotic Gantry Loader. QCI will be able to achieve continuous operations with precision and consistency, reducing workpiece change times for an overall increase in productivity and versatility. QCI expects to upskill 4-6 employees as a result.

The MMAP grant will enable Richards to invest in a Yamazen Flex2 automation cell (including a six-axis robotic arm) and a new electrical discharge machining (EDM) device. Richards will be able to address efficiency and capacity challenges to meet client demand, incorporating new technologies into their manufacturing process. As a result of this project, Richards expects to upskill 4-6 employees.

Project Description: Sensing Systems offers a comprehensive range of measurement services and produces high-quality, strain gage-based sensors. With this grant, the company will be able to design and manufacture a one-million-pound capacity force calibration press. As a result, they can calibrate the high-capacity load cells they manufacture, a critical requirement in the manufacturing process that is currently outsourced. As a result of this project, Sensing Systems expects to upskill 4-6 employees.

Project: Titcomb Bros. designs and produces concrete forms, form ties, and forming hardware for application in residential and commercial concrete construction projects. With the aid of this grant, Titcomb will be able to invest in two pieces of automated equipment, a highly advanced welding robot, and a multi-step wire form loop tie machine. Titcomb will, as a result, expand their capacity to produce standard size and custom length concrete form ties (these are essential components in the formation of nearly all concrete structures built today). They will also significantly increase general output. As a result of this project, Titcomb expects to upskill 1-3 employees.

This grant will help BostonSight purchase a new DAC ALM lathe with an autoloader and precision blocking system. The lathe manufactures scleral contact lenses from rigid gas permeable plastic buttons, which can be customized to meet the unique needs of each individual patient. The autoloader is a robotic assembly system and will be the first of its kind at the BostonSight manufacturing facility, serving as their entry into emerging digital technologies that will position them for future success and innovation.

Delta Electronics Mfg. Corp. is a woman-owned business that manufactures radio frequency coaxial connectors, cable assemblies, and other components. This grant will allow Delta Electronics to purchase key pieces of equipment, including an x-ray machine to inspect solder terminations, a compact machining center used for fixtures and tooling, a digital cut-off saw to measure and cut semi-rigid cable, a robotic benchtop soldering system, and more. With this new equipment, Delta Electronics will be able to manufacture, test, and qualify solder and electrical assemblies in compliance with the IPC-620 Space addendum certification. Their products are used in military, aerospace, medical, broadcast/audio, transportation, and industrial markets.

Den Mar Company is a full-service sheet metal fabricator that serves architectural millwork companies, restaurant equipment contractors, and industrial accounts. This grant will allow Den Mar to meet the high demand in production they are experiencing by purchasing three state-of-the-art robotic welding systems. These new robots will replace their current tract robots, which are more than 30 years old. Deploying newer robots showcases the company’s commitment to more efficient operation and will help them hire new entry-level employees.

F.H. Peterson Machine Corp.$250,000StoughtonMassMEP

F.H. Peterson Machine Corp. is a precision and general contract machining firm that is primarily focused on the defense industry but serves a wide range of markets. This grant will allow F.H. Peterson to advance in the field of defense contract machining by purchasing a large vertical CNC machining center, which can precisely machine parts weighing upwards of 10,000 lbs. Additionally, the company will purchase a large CNC Mill-Turn “Live-Tooled” Lathe, enhancing capabilities of multi-axis applications. These purchases will allow the company to improve efficiency in its processes, keep up with demand, and train all co-op and apprenticeship machinists using the latest advanced methods of machining in the industry.

G&F Precision Molding Inc.$250,000SturbridgeMassMEP

G&F Precision Molding Inc. is a contract manufacturing company specializing in thermoplastic and silicone injection molding for the medical device, pharmaceutical, and defense industries. G&F will use this grant to purchase a coordinate measuring machine, which determines three-dimensional measurements quickly and without moving axes or fixturing in a complex manner. CT scanning capabilities will allow G&F to develop new products for their customers at a better quality, faster pace, and reduced cost. Currently, all CT scanning work is outsourced to a company in Florida. This equipment will allow G&F to bring this work back to Massachusetts.

Helfrich Brothers Boiler Works, Inc. $250,000LawrenceMassMEP

Helfrich Brothers Boiler Works manufacturers, repairs, and installs boiler pressure parts for major utility and renewable energy companies in Massachusetts and across the country. Additionally, the company fabricates ASME pressure vessels for the semiconductor, battery production, additive manufacturing, advanced robotics, and aerospace industries. This grant will help Helfrich Brothers keep up to date with emerging technologies by adding robotic welding to their production capabilities. The collaborative robot will be deployed alongside a trained employee to automate the welding of attachments to tanks and tubes. By bringing on this new technology, Helfrich Brothers will provide an opportunity for their employees to stay current with new manufacturing trends and continue to build their skillsets.

J&J Machine Company, Inc.$185,087MarlboroughMassMEP

J&J Machine Company manufactures precision components from metal, plastic, and other materials for the medical, aerospace, and scientific sectors. J&J will use this grant to create complex parts with increased precision and efficiency through the purchase of a Haas VF-4SS milling machine with a five-axis Trunnion. Additionally, J&J will purchase a coordinate measuring machine, which can be programmed to automatically inspect complex parts with high accuracy. Using their current technology, complex parts may require p to seven operations, with each step requiring set-up and inspection, introducing opportunities for error. Five-axis technology will eliminate multiple set-ups, reduce waste, improve cycle times, and provides a high level of repeatability.

Proto XYZ offers cloud-based manufacturing services using emerging technologies and disruptive innovations. Utilizing 3D printing technologies, CNC machining, and artificial intelligence, Proto XYZ provides quality parts and components to engineers and designers across industries including defense, microelectronics, medical device, and robotics. This grant will allow Proto XYZ to expand the production of metal components using CNC milling, CNC turning, and laser cutting. The additional equipment purchased through funding will result in lower costs and reduced lead-times by using the best manufacturing process for the specific products in their customer’s order.

Sinicon Plastics$137,500DaltonBerkshire Innovation Center

Sinicon Plastics is an injection molding and precision machining manufacturer specializing in molding highly engineered resins for the medical, pharmaceutical, and aerospace industries. In the last four years, they have expanded capabilities to include metal machining. This grant will enable Sinicon to further improve their machining capabilities by adding a 4+ axis vertical and horizontal machining center. By upgrading their current equipment, Sinicon will be in a position to absorb a larger amount of highly technical jobs to match the growing demand. Additionally, Sinicon will be adding precision measurement systems to ensure quality outputs.

Wirefab Inc.$225,000WorcesterMassMEP

Wirefab Inc. specializes in scalable wire and metal manufacturing, engineered design, customizable fabrication, and efficient supply solutions. This grant will enable Wirefab to purchase a customized automated wire forming cell. The machine is a state-of-the-art CNC 3D wire former with synchro technology configured with a turret head coupled with three rotary satellite benders. The cell will allow for full automation of secondary operations including complex bends, sorting, and packaging. Additionally, the integration of this cell into Wirefab’s operation will increase workforce safety, allowing workers to oversee the automation rather than handle heavy and dangerous parts. This would be the first fully automated cell on the production floor, moving the company towards Industry 4.0.

Davico is seeking to purchase an additional welding robot with scanner sensor technology from Scalable Robotics (another Mass.-based company) to scale and balance their robotic welding department, and a Haas Automation CNC Machining center to shape steel that will be welded by the robot. The equipment purchase provides advanced manufacturing (4.0) advantages over traditional welding and fabrication.

Summary: Multiscale Systems will use the MMAP dollars to purchase a contact-free non-destructive computer vision quality management system to help them upgrade from short-run productions to full-scale production for a project in which they are under contract with NASA. Summary: Quabbin Wire & Cable plans to expand R&D and manufacturing capability by purchasing an automatic balunless testing unit, extrusion line, dryer and wire braiders.  This equipment purchase represents another step towards automation and Industry 4.0 across their facility.

Summary: NE-XT Technologies (formerly VSS) is a precision machining shop looking to expand its business in aerospace.  It will be investing $3.5m in a NPI cell (New Products Integration) to develop and create processes for parts for aero engines, airframes and ground based power systems. This cell contains numerous machines to cover a wide variety of capabilities (5 axis mills, 4 axis horizontals, multi-tasking lathes, etc). In combination with in-house training programs, this capital will push VSS to be a world class solutions provider at the forefront of industry 4.0.

Summary: Ward Process is a fabricator of thermal insulation products. The MMAP dollars will be used to invest in a new oven which will be deployed into the manufacturing process of high transmission loss acoustical products that are used to “block” sound within various customer applications. The oven will improve processing speeds by 10-15%, thus improving overall output without investment in labor or manufacturing overhead.

Summary: Worthington Assembly is an electronics contract manufacturing company. To continue to meet the unique specification of the ultra-miniature semiconductor and electronics in medical, defense, energy and robotics, Worthington is investing in a pick and place robotics system. This equipment is built on the CFX Industry 4.0 standard enabling ‘plug and play’ IoT communication across the manufacturing environment, where all equipment, manufacturing processes, and transactional stations can communicate without the need for specialized software. This will enable the next generation of manufacturing jobs and support the Massachusetts advanced semiconductor ecosystem.

The company is currently scaling two enabling fiber technologies: a chip-in-fiber technology, and a sensitive fiber and fabric acoustic microphone and vibrometer for remote health monitoring for susceptible populations. IFM’s new equipment will be used to set up an initial manufacturing facility to support the market introduction of its first mass market product in 2021.

The company’s capital equipment purchase includes converting workspace and additional equipment for increased production, including an automated fiberglass fabric cutter.
